The City of Miami will hold its annual Spring trash-off event on Saturday, April 19, 2014. Volunteers are asked to meet at the Miami Civic Center at 8 a.m. Risk Management will conduct a brief safety meeting with volunteers. Each person will receive gloves and a safety vest. Volunteers will be assigned an area or street side to remove debris. All participants are asked to wear long pants and closed toe shoes. Refreshments will be served during the safety briefing.
In addition to the trash-off event, residential customers have the opportunity to bring items free of charge to the transfer station (one week for each side of the community). Please note the following dates for each area. Northwest and Southwest sections of the City can bring items on Monday, April 28th through Saturday, May 3rd. Northeast and Southeast sections of the City can bring items on Monday, May 5th through Saturday, May 10th. Please note this is for residential customers only. Citizens must bring their drivers license and utility bill.
The transfer station, located at 1117 N.W. Veterans Blvd, is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. During this time, yard waste is also accepted. It needs to be kept separate from other items because it will be processed at a different location. The City cannot accept any hazardous waste. A charge will be required for construction debris and roofing materials. Air conditioners, freezers and refrigerators must have the compressors removed. Paint cans must have the lids off and the paint must be dried out. Passenger tires will be accepted for a small fee.
