[ARCHIVED] Fire Weather Watch and Wind Advisory for Miami/Ottawa County

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A FIRE WEATHER WATCH WHICH IS IN EFFECT SUNDAY AFTERNOON FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN OKLAHOMA: OTTAWA, PAWNEE, WASHINGTON, OSAGE, CRAIG, NOWATA, CREEK, OKFUSKEE, OKMULGEE, WAGONER, TULSA, ROGERS, AND MAYES.

WARM TEMPERATURES LOW RELATIVE HUMIDITIES AND STRONG WINDS WILL COMBINE ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON TO PRODUCE NEAR CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS. A WILDFIRE COULD QUICKLY SPREAD OUT OF CONTROL IN THESE CONDITIONS. RELATIVE HUMIDITIES 25 TO 30 PERCENT. STRONG WIND GUSTS OF 40 TO 45 MPH.

THE PURPOSE OF FIRE WEATHER WATCHES AND RED FLAG WARNINGS ARE TO ALERT LAND MANAGEMENT AGENCIES OF DEVELOPING WEATHER CONDITIONS THAT WHEN COMBINED WITH CRITICALLY DRY WILDLAND FUELS COULD LEAD TO DANGEROUS WILDFIRES. TIMELY AND ACCURATE WATCHES AND WARNINGS ENABLE FIRE FIGHTING AGENCIES TO MANAGE RESOURCES AND PREPARE APPROPRIATE SUPPRESSION RESPONSES FOR PROTECTING LIFE AND PROPERTY.

A FIRE WEATHER WATCH MEANS THAT CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE FORECAST TO OCCUR.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN TULSA HAS ISSUED A WIND ADVISORY WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 9 AM TO 6 PM CST SUNDAY FOR THE FOLLOWING COUNTIES IN OKLAHOMA: WASHINGTON, WAGONER, OTTAWA, ROGERS, PAWNEE, DELAWARE, CHEROKEE, ADAIR, CRAIG, NOWATA, CREEK, OKFUSKEE, MCINTOSH, MUSKOGEE, TULSA, OKMULGEE, MAYES, ANDOSAGE.

A TIGHTENING PRESSURE GRADIENT OVER NORTHEAST OKLAHOMA AND NORTHWEST ARKANSAS WILL BRING STRONG SOUTH TO SOUTHWEST WINDS ON SUNDAY. WINDS RIGHT OFF THE SURFACE WILL BE VERY STRONG WHICH WILL BRING THE POTENTIAL FOR WIND GUSTS TO 40 MPH OR HIGHER. WIND GUSTS AS HIGH AS 45 MPH ARE POSSIBLE. WINDS THIS STRONG CAN MAKE DRIVING DIFFICULT ESPECIALLY FOR HIGH PROFILE VEHICLES.
