About the Coleman Theatre
The Coleman Theatre Beautiful, built by mining magnate George Coleman, opened to a full house of 1600 on April 18, 1929. The Vaudeville/movie palace was a big city style theater, complete with shops and a ballroom. By the late 1980’s it had deteriorated significantly. Over the next 23 years the community volunteers (as a non-profit entity), area supporters and the City of Miami have restored the treasured theater to its original glory and it has become a major tourist attraction, drawing guests from all over the world.
The Coleman Theatre is open for tours five days a week and is a fully functional theater bringing entertainment from national touring shows, local theatre groups and musicians, plus public school productions, weddings and special events. The most recent addition, the ballroom, is used for conferences, receptions, banquets and parties of all kinds.
