Areas set for closure are I Street NW between 9th and 12th streets northwest; N Street NW between BJ Tunnel Boulevard and a point 100 feet past 10th Street NW; 13th Avenue NE between E Street NW and A Street NW; and BJ Tunnel from D Street NE to the railroad tracks. All four streets are set for complete reconstruction, according to Cline. The existing road bed will be removed, 16 inches of aggregate will be laid and 6 inches of concrete road surface will be poured.
Neece Concrete, contractor for the $1.3 million project, expects to mobilize equipment, mark work zones, and circulate informational flyers to residents as early as Sept. 24. Road closures, however, will begin Sept. 29th. The duration of the closure has not been determined.
Phase IV will bring the 2010 street improvement project to near completion, Cline said. Funding for the work is derived from the Miami Utility Services Authority 2010 Construction Fund. That money is generated by a .65 sales tax increase approved by the public in July, 2010.
